Our beef cattle only eat grass and forages and never receive any grains. It is truly grass-fed and grass-finished. They are moved frequently to fresh pasture through rotational grazing practices and not allowed to stay in one spot too long. This helps reduce the amount of manure in any one area to allow natural soil life and dung beetles to benefit from the managed impact and provide the animals with an environment that is better for their overall health.
Our initial herd of 14 beef cattle included 5 cows, 5 steers and 4 heifers that were already living on the property which is now our farm. The 15th cow was our addition of a registered South Poll bull. We are working on growing a closed herd at this time and will only have steers available for meat that are born on our property moving forward. This means that our beef supply could vary from year-to-year.
None of these animals receive antibiotics or growth hormones. We have chosen not to vaccinate any of the cows born on property since we acquired the herd.
Our pastures are never sprayed with pesticides or herbicides and we do not use synthetic fertilizers.
