Farm Practices

No pesticides.  No herbicides.  No synthetic fertilizers.

Superior food begins with the care and nourishment of the soil.  That means we take great care in selecting our inputs so that our food outputs are equally considered.  This means we must look at things very differently.  We decided to treat our pastures like life depends on it.  No pun intended!

We focus on improving the soil which will enrich the land to provide an environment for humanely raising animals.   Then, the animals also help improve the soil when they are raised using systems which mimic nature and still allow us to keep them safe from predators.  Ultimately, we strive to be good stewards and work towards continual improvements as we move along this farming journey.

100% of our animals spend (almost) 100% of their time on 100% rooted vegetation.  We do cater to our baby chicks by allowing them the early benefits of increased safety in our spacious brooder for approximately 2.5 to 3 weeks.  That brooder time drops us just below the 100% goal for all animals to spend their entire lives on rooted vegetation.  Chicks need time for feather growth which will help protect them from the outside elements such as inclement weather.  In nature, a mama hen would provide that shelter with her wings.
